Carrying on with the theme of Manston Airport for the time being I have uncovered a little more information that I feel needs putting in the public domain.
Thanet Council‘s UKIP cabinet held what they refer to as a cabinet meeting on the 29th Oct to discuss the future of RiverOak as a indemnity partner to assist them in the purchase of Manston Airport. It was decided at the end of that meeting by a vote that the CPO would not be pursued at the time. Cllr Chris Wells made a comment on camera which intrigued me greatly and that was there are four other parties who have expressed an interest in Manston.
As you can imagine I was quite intrigued so decided to look into things further by sending a FOI request to them and ask the direct question. Below is the text I used to reveal the results of my findings to the SMA group and will best explain what I found.
Hi All. I have just seen a post from Paul Messengeron here asking a very simple question, that is “Where are these ‘other investors’ Chris Wells was bragging about?” Well I can shed a little light on that.
As we all know on the night of the cabinet meeting on the 29th Oct Cllr Wells quite clearly stated and has been filmed doing so that there are four other parties interested in Manston airport but he refused to name them on the grounds negotiations had not concluded with Riveroak. I sat down and decided to send an FOI request asking for the names of the investors as in my mind if TDC were refusing to pursue things with RiverOak then surely negotiations had concluded.
Several days later and after an acknowledgment I received a reply from Tim Howes (Suprise Suprise) stateing that TDC have this information but they would be with holding it on grounds of commercial sensitivity. He quoted sections of the FOI act but I looked them up.
I obviously was not happy with this and decided to ask for an internal review. I have today received a response from one Claire Grant. The result of this is that she has overturned the decision made by Tim Howes. She went further and informed me that the reason for this is that at the time of my writing in there were NO formal written expressions of interest from a third party with regard to acting as an indemnity partner with regard to Manston.
This response quite clearly shows that Cllr Wells has some explaining to do and no doubt other officers and councilors at TDC also.
I have included the link to all of my correspondence and I also intend to contact the press and my local MP to as this is quite an obvious case of (I’ll leave you to fill in the gaps) that requires full investigation.
There is video evidence available which substantiates Cllr Wells words which you can watch below.
Anyone who cares in anyway about the future of Manston Airport and honest politics within the Thanet area please get this article shared around as the more people that know about it the better.
